Thai-Cambodian Police Collaboration Uncovers Large Call Center Gang

Bangkok: The Prime Minister received a report that the Thai police and Cambodian police had worked together to crack down on a large building call center gang. Jirayu revealed that the Prime Minister received a report from the National Police Chief after Thai police and Cambodian police cracked down on a large call center gang in a building on the Poipet side near Rong Kluea Market, finding almost 200 Thais and more than 100 foreigners. They are preparing to investigate their backgrounds and record all aspects of their information before sending them back to their respective countries.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, advisor to the Prime Minister, revealed that this morning the Prime Minister received a report from Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the National Police Chief, on resolving the call center gang problem on the western side of the border of Sa Kaeo Province, stating that the Thai government has requested cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia in resolving the call center gang problem.

By Pol. Lt. Col. Chum Rieng, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, the police coordinated with the Cambodian police chief to lead a force to search a 3-storey building in the compound plaza, which a Thai source said some Thais were tricked into working in. This place was rented by Chinese people to conduct online gambling and online fraud in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, opposite the Khlong Luek checkpoint, Rong Kluea Market, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province. The land and building were identified as belonging to a high-ranking executive of Banteay Meanchey Province.

Officials have brought out a total of 215 foreigners, of which 109 are Thais, 54 are Thai women, totaling 163 Thais. In addition, there are 5 Taiwanese, 50 Pakistanis, 3 Indonesians, and 48 Indians. Currently, they are being questioned and their history is being recorded on the Cambodian side.

The operation was carried out after the Thai government requested cooperation in solving the problems of both countries. Last week, the Thai police inspector met with the deputy police chief of Cambodia on Friday, February 21. Security intelligence reported that it was considered a large number of Thais being evacuated from a building believed to be the largest online business of both countries, and that there will be continued crackdowns.

Mr. Jirayu further said that this morning, the assistant police attach© and the Thai consular division will travel to the border at the Khlong Luek checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province, to monitor progress and conduct documents to record history and screen for initial questioning to determine whether these individuals are victims or involved in the movement.

Mr. Jirayu continued that the Prime Minister has urged all relevant agencies to be prepared to receive Thais and asked them to conduct thorough inspections in all dimensions, including preparing to coordinate with various embassies that have identified these groups of people, in order to prepare for the various legal processes. The Prime Minister thanked all sectors that have worked together to seriously solve the problem on both the eastern and western sides of Thailand.
