Bangkok: TAT accelerates online image creation to build confidence among Chinese tourists after the "Xing Xing" incident caused a drop in tourist numbers. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), addressed the need to restore confidence among Chinese tourists following cancellations and a decrease in visits linked to the incident involving Chinese star 'Xing Xing'. In response, TAT has focused on managing its online image amid varying opinions, recognizing the anxiety among Chinese tourists who have not yet visited Thailand. Efforts include organizing charter flights to Thailand despite some cancellations, highlighting Thailand's reputation as a welcoming destination, especially for Chinese tourists.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Thapanee noted that individual travelers using regular airlines remain largely unaffected, with 90 to 95% continuing their trips. However, TAT acknowledges the importance of enhancing the country's digital portrayal and effectively communicating Thailand's true nature to the Chinese online audience.
Ms. Thapanee outlined that TAT's five offices in China are collaborating with travel agents, tour operators, and airlines to prepare for the influx of tourists expected during the Chinese New Year. The preparation focuses on three key areas: safety, products and services, and ensuring a positive experience in Thailand. Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, has emphasized the significance of collaborating with the Tourist Police to ensure tourist safety and addressing any incidents that arise, with additional support from the security sector.
