Suspected Abdullah Bula Group Attack Biomass Power Plant in Narathiwat

Waeng: The Abdullah Bula group is suspected of orchestrating an attack that involved setting a backhoe on fire at a biomass power plant in Waeng District, Narathiwat Province. The incident led to the discovery of two improvised explosive devices at the site.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire occurred late on August 15 at the Fire of Wood Green Energy Co., Ltd. facility in Ban Sala Uma, Village No. 9, Kayukla Subdistrict. Security footage reviewed by police captured the events of the night, revealing three loud explosions at the scene.

Officials, including the Deputy Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police and local volunteer defense officers, inspected the site the following morning. However, the operation was halted for safety reasons due to logs blocking the route to the power plant. Witnesses reported that approximately 15 individuals, dressed in black and armed, infiltrated the factory from behind. They subdued security guards by tying their hands and subsequently set fire to a backhoe, a six-wheel truck, and a tractor.

Explosions were reported during the attack, with unidentified containers found near the control room and power plant building walls being the source of two blasts. Another explosion remains unaccounted for.

Security assessments indicate that the perpetrators belong to the Abdullah Bula group, known for violent activities in Waeng District and nearby areas. The biomass power plant has temporarily ceased operations. Although the security guards were restrained, they were unharmed and later freed by a colleague. Waeng Police Station plans to gather statements from the guards and night shift staff as part of their investigation, which includes forensic examinations.
