Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit expressed optimism about the Pheu Thai Party's electoral prospects, particularly following the recent success of Sarawut Petchpanomporn, who was elected as the President of the Udon Thani Provincial Administrative Organization. Suriya acknowledged the significant influence of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in this victory, as his past achievements continue to resonate with the people of Isan. According to Thai News Agency, Suriya emphasized that the tangible work done by Thaksin, from his time with the Thai Rak Thai Party to his contributions to the Pheu Thai Party, played a crucial role in securing this overwhelming win. He noted that Thaksin's involvement in the campaign was pivotal and hinted at the possibility of Thaksin participating in future campaigns, should it be deemed beneficial for candidates. Suriya also addressed the party's strategic considerations, mentioning that the strategy committee is evaluating p otential areas to focus on and inviting candidates to participate in campaigns. He suggested that the success in Udon Thani could lead to a domino effect, potentially benefiting Pheu Thai in other provincial administrative organization elections. Discussing the ambitious goal of securing 200 votes in the next election, Suriya highlighted the importance of economic recovery and effective stimulus measures as critical factors. He believes that if the government and Pheu Thai can implement successful economic policies, achieving the 200-vote target is feasible. Suriya remained cautious about predicting a parliamentary majority for Pheu Thai, stating that reaching the 200-vote milestone is the immediate objective. He also responded to concerns about the Nida Poll's findings, which suggested that failing to reach this target might be demoralizing, by asserting that proving their achievements is paramount to overcoming any potential discouragement.
