Bangkok: The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for the verdict in the case involving the leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) who orchestrated the seizure of Thailand's national television station, NBT, on August 26, 2008. The charges against them include gathering of 10 or more people, gang activity, trespassing, and property damage. Mr. Somkiat Phongpaiboon, another defendant, passed away on November 14, 2021. This morning, the Criminal Court witnessed a steady stream of defendants arriving, with Mr. Chitipat Limthongkul being the first at 7:45 a.m.

Former PAD members and prominent supporters also gathered at the court to support the defendants. Notable figures present included Mr. Panthep Puaphongphan, Dean of the College of Oriental Medicine at Rangsit University; M.L. Wanwipa Charoonroj, an academic; Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, Chairman of the Thai Phakdee Party; Mr. Somchai Sawaengkarn, a former senator; and Mr. Nitithorn Lamluea, a lawyer.

The defendants expressed their readiness to face the verdict. Mr. Yutthiyong Limlertwatee, a journalist and one of the defendants, stated that he is prepared to accept the verdict and emphasized his commitment to truth and evidence. He expressed confidence that the available evidence would refute the accusations against him, insisting that his role was merely as a communicator for the benefit of the nation. He expressed a desire to return to his family and journalism work.

Similarly, Ms. Anchalee Pairirak, another journalist defendant, acknowledged her actions but insisted they were for the nation's benefit, not personal gain. She expressed her commitment to societal improvement and her willingness to face any verdict. She remains determined to continue her media career and advocacy for the country.

Mr. Phuwanon Songprasert, another defendant, was unable to attend the hearing due to health issues, but the court did not postpone the verdict. The defendants have submitted necessary documentation to confirm Mr. Phuwanon's condition. Ms. Anchalee emphasized that the verdict would not deter her from her public sector activities or her beliefs, regardless of the outcome.

In summary, the defendants remain steadfast in their positions and are prepared to face the court's decision, maintaining their dedication to their causes and the nation. The outcome of the verdict is awaited with anticipation by all parties involved.
