Udon thani: A fourth-year university student was arrested by police in Udon Thani for possession of 354 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice." The student, identified as Ms. Bai Tong, was found in tears, claiming the drugs were left with her by her father. According to Thai News Agency, the Udon Thani Provincial Police Investigation Unit conducted a raid following intelligence about a planned drug delivery in the area. The operation took place in front of a hotel within Udon Thani Municipality. Around 6:30 p.m., law enforcement officers observed a white sedan parked in front of the hotel. Ms. Bai Tong exited the vehicle, which led to a search of the car. Inside, officers discovered 12 sacks containing a total of 354 bags of dried tea leaves, each marked with Chinese logos and weighing 1 kilogram. Subsequent inspection confirmed the substance as ice. Ms. Bai Tong was detained along with the evidence. Pol. Maj. Gen. Kittisak Plathong, commander of the 2nd Border Patrol Police Region, s tated that there had been ongoing reports of a significant drug shipment intended for distribution from Udon Thani to central Thailand. The confiscation of this substantial batch, valued at 354 million baht, is considered a major interception. Authorities believe the street value could have been significantly higher had it reached the inner regions. During the investigation, Ms. Bai Tong revealed her family background, stating that her parents separated when she was young, and she was raised by her grandparents. She claimed her father, who is a Lao national, would contact her intermittently, and she was unaware of his involvement in illegal activities. She admitted to previously assisting her father by driving and scouting delivery routes but insisted she was unaware of the true nature of the deliveries. On this occasion, she followed her father's instructions to leave the items in the car, not knowing they contained drugs, and was subsequently arrested. Authorities plan to conduct further interrogations to uncover the full extent of the drug network and bring all involved to justice.
