Storm “Wutib” Intensifies, Bringing Heavy Rain to Northeast Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding Storm "Wutib," which is anticipated to bring increased rainfall to the northeastern part of Thailand. Although the center of the storm will not enter Thailand, areas in the northeast could experience heavy to very heavy rain.

According to Thai News Agency, the tropical storm "Wutib," located in the upper South China Sea, has intensified into a severe tropical storm. Its center is situated approximately 100 kilometers south of Hainan Island, at latitude 17.8 degrees north and longitude 108.6 degrees east. The storm boasts maximum wind speeds near the center of about 90 kilometers per hour and is moving northwest at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour. It is predicted to pass Hainan Island and enter southern China between June 13 and 14, 2015, before weakening into a depression and subsequently a low-pressure cell.

The Meteorological Department has advised travelers to check weather conditions before heading to affected areas. The storm's presence is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon over Thailand, leading to increased rainfall and potentially heavy rain in the eastern part of the northeastern region. Additionally, the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to experience strong waves.

The Meteorological Department has assured the public that they will be promptly notified of any changes in the situation. People are urged to stay updated on announcements from the department, which can be accessed through their website or by calling their hotline available 24 hours a day.
