Southern Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

Bangkok: Thunderstorms are expected to persist in upper Thailand, with the southern region bracing for heavy rain in several areas. The Meteorological Department has issued a 24-hour weather forecast, highlighting the ongoing threat of thunderstorms across the region.

According to Thai News Agency, easterly and southeasterly winds are sweeping across the Gulf of Thailand, Thailand, and the Andaman Sea, contributing to the adverse weather conditions. Residents, particularly those in southern Thailand, are urged to remain vigilant against the dangers posed by thunderstorms, heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall. Caution is also advised for those traveling through potentially flooded regions.

Mariners are warned of rough sea conditions, with waves reaching approximately 1 meter in height in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights may exceed 2 meters, prompting advice for caution and avoidance of sailing in these hazardous areas.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Fengshen, currently near Luzon Island in the Philippines, is predicted to move into the upper South China Sea. By October 21-23, the storm is expected to approach southern Hainan Island, China, and the central coast of Vietnam. Although the storm is not forecasted to directly impact Thailand, it will likely bring rain to the northeastern region and strengthen northeasterly winds.

For the northern region, thunderstorms are expected in 20% of the area, mainly affecting provinces such as Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. The northeastern region will experience similar conditions, with thunderstorms anticipated in Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, and other provinces.

In the central region, 40% of the area is likely to experience thunderstorms, particularly in provinces like Suphan Buri and Kanchanaburi. Eastern Thailand can expect similar weather, with notable impacts in Nakhon Nayok and Chachoengsao among others.

The southern region, particularly the east coast, is forecasted to have thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in provinces such as Surat Thani and Songkhla. The west coast of southern Thailand will also see similar conditions, with Krabi and Trang among the affected provinces.

In Bangkok and surrounding areas, 40% of the area is expected to experience thunderstorms, highlighting the widespread nature of the current weather conditions.
