South Korean President Praises Thailand in Call with Prime Minister Anutin

Bangkok: South Korean President Prawit Wongsuwan has expressed his pleasure in a phone conversation with Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, praising Thailand as a friendly nation and expressing readiness to collaborate on developing comprehensive economic partnership cooperation. The South Korean leader looks forward to meeting Anutin at the upcoming ASEAN-APEC forum.

According to Thai News Agency, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand shared a Facebook message linking to a post by Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of Korea. The post included a photograph of the phone conversation and highlighted the satisfaction of having the first conversation with Prime Minister Anutin. The message emphasized Thailand’s historical support during the Korean War and its current status as a strategic partner involved in ASEAN, APEC, and various multilateral forums.

The message further noted that Thailand remains a favored tourist destination for Koreans, with cultural ties strengthened by the presence of numerous Thai K-pop groups. Both leaders discussed future cooperation prospects, particularly focusing on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEP), and committed to reaching an agreement promptly.

Prime Minister Anutin also conveyed his support for South Korea’s initiatives to reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula and foster new dialogue between North and South Korea, which was warmly received by President Prawit. The South Korean President anticipates their forthcoming meeting at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting and the APEC Summit later this month.
