South Korean Leaders Collaborate with Thailand and Vietnam to Tackle Online Scammers

Bangkok: South Korean leaders met with their Thai and Vietnamese counterparts to discuss ways to combat online crimes that are spreading across Southeast Asia.

According to Thai News Agency, the South Korean presidential office issued a statement stating that President Lee Jae-myung held a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday to discuss measures to combat online fraud in Southeast Asia, where many South Koreans have fallen victim, particularly scammers in Cambodia. The two leaders had previously discussed this issue during a phone call mid-month. Prime Minister Anutin urged South Korea to pressure Cambodia and confirmed that Thailand would be willing to fully assist the South Koreans if it could, and that Thailand was also prepared to fully cooperate in the crackdown on scammers.

On the same day, the South Korean leader also met with Vietnamese President Luong Cuong. Lee stressed that effective crackdowns on scammers in Southeast Asia require bilateral and multilateral cooperation, hoping that Vietnam and South Korea will jointly strengthen their efforts to solve the problem. Luong Cuong also said that Vietnamese people have also fallen victim to scammers, and that authorities in both countries should strengthen cooperation to protect their citizens and jointly address this issue.
