Udon thani: A soldier has been apprehended by Udon Thani police after allegedly deceiving a woman into a romantic relationship, filming her without consent, and threatening extortion. The suspect, a sergeant major, confessed to committing similar offenses repeatedly in search of funds to invest in stock trading. According to Thai News Agency, the police action followed a complaint by a 22-year-old woman who accused Sergeant Suphakorn, also known as Film, of theft and extortion. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect in Sakon Nakhon Province, where he was found setting up another potential victim. The authorities disclosed that Sergeant Suphakorn used a dating app to meet the victim, claiming to be a stable and employed army sergeant. He subsequently stole her laptop and threatened to delete vital data unless she transferred money to him, prompting her to report the crime. Further investigations revealed that Sergeant Suphakorn was indeed a soldier stationed in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, but he had been ordered to leave service for desertion since August 19. The police compiled evidence and secured an arrest warrant from the 24th Military Circle Court, culminating in his capture in Sakon Nakhon Province. His mobile phone contained multiple dating apps and eight Facebook accounts, along with 2,000 illicit recordings of victims. The suspect reportedly employed romantic deception to lure women to his house, which was equipped with CCTV cameras, and secretly recorded intimate encounters. He would subsequently use fake Facebook accounts to contact the victims and their acquaintances, threatening to disseminate the footage unless paid. In addition, he stole cars, motorcycles, and other valuables from the victims. While seven victims have come forward, authorities believe over 60 women fell prey to his scheme, chiefly attracted to his perceived stable career as a soldier. Sergeant Suphakorn admitted to the charges and stated that he financed his stock trading endeavors with the proceeds from the stolen p roperty. The police have transferred him to a military court to face legal proceedings.
