Siripong Dismisses Rumors of Chanthaburi-Trat Border Opening, Emphasizes Thai Interests

Bangkok: Siripong counters rumors of opening the Chanthaburi-Trat border crossing, insisting it will be during the caretaker government's term. He reiterates Prime Minister Anutin and the Bhumjaithai Party's stance on prioritizing the interests of the Thai people, not third countries.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, stated that the Thai-Cambodian GBC negotiations, which addressed the issue of opening the border crossing at Chanthaburi-Trat Province to allow goods from third countries to pass through Thailand to Cambodia, were conducted within the framework of negotiations and were under the responsibility of the caretaker government, which remains in office.

The new government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has not yet taken office, as he has yet to present his oath of office and deliver his policy statement to Parliament. However, he has informed the public that if the majority of the public disapproves, he is ready to reconsider the plan once the new government takes office.

Mr. Siripong confirmed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Bhumjaithai Party's proposal to resolve the Thai-Cambodian border dispute prioritizes the interests of the Thai people and Thailand, and does not take into account the interests of third countries that are pressuring them.

"I would like to reaffirm that in resolving the Thai-Cambodian issue, Thailand must not lose any benefits and must achieve peace, in accordance with the Prime Minister's policy of using peaceful means and not conceding a single square centimeter of territory," said Mr. Siripong.
