Siriphong Unveils “Half-Half” as Bhumjaithai Party’s Central Policy Initiative

Bangkok: Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has announced the "Half-Half" initiative as the central policy of the Bhumjaithai government, emphasizing urgent actions on border issues, energy prices, and electricity rates.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong revealed that the list of cabinet members for the Anutin 1 government will be submitted to His Majesty the King within this week. He highlighted the "Half-Half" project as the party's flagship policy, which has faced both criticism and acclaim. Mr. Ekniti Nitithanpraphat, the prospective Finance Minister, has been actively involved, with meetings continuing late into the night, showcasing the party's commitment to the project. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed energy price controls at a Federation of Thai Industries meeting, projecting a reduction in electricity prices by the first quarter of next year. The party is also examining potential fuel price reductions. Furthermore, the Thai-Cambodian border policy remains a pressing issue, with border crossings staying closed until Cambodia normalizes its situation.

Mr. Siripong confirmed that the Prime Minister has tasked Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, the prospective Minister of Commerce, with finding new trade opportunities for border traders. Additionally, Mr. Ekniti was instructed to encourage investors from the Thailand Plus One initiative to relocate their production bases from Cambodia to Thailand.

Regarding the 40-baht electric train fare policy, Mr. Siripong elaborated on the party's plan to introduce electric buses with a fare ceiling of 20 baht, akin to a buffet ticket. The Common Ticket Act, currently under Senate review, would establish a pricing framework for electric train fares. The act is anticipated to facilitate the implementation of the 40-baht electric train fare once passed.

Mr. Siripong also discussed the draft policy statement's progress for presentation to Parliament. He stated that revisions are underway, with input from other coalition parties overseeing various ministries. The Bhumjaithai Party aims to complete the draft policy within a week, ensuring all policy statements are finalized by the month's end.
