Shenzhen: Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that Shenzhen, the southern technology hub of China, will host the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit in November 2026. Xi made this announcement during the APEC Chairmanship handover ceremony, where he emphasized the significance of building an Asia-Pacific community to ensure the region's long-term development and prosperity through a shared vision.
According to Thai News Agency, Xi Jinping expressed China's willingness to leverage the opportunity of hosting the summit in 2026 to collaborate with all parties in building an Asia-Pacific community and fostering regional economic growth. Meanwhile, in a related development, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung addressed the event, affirming his government's commitment to pursuing peace between South and North Korea.
China's official Xinhua News Agency highlighted that the annual APEC summit concluded with the release of several outcome documents. These include the 2025 APEC Leaders' Gyeongju Declaration, the APEC Artificial Intelligence Initiative, and the APEC Framework for Cooperation on Population Structure Changes.
