Senate Completes First Year with Consideration of 15 Laws and 183 Discussions

Bangkok: The Senate has reviewed its achievements from the first year of Term 2, highlighting the consideration of 15 laws and discussion of 183 matters. The Senate convened 29 times during this period.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting, chaired by Mr. Boonsong Noisophon, Second Vice President of the Senate, summarized the Senate's performance during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the Year, spanning from December 12, 2024, to April 10, 2025. The meetings lasted a cumulative 166 hours, with 14 discussions held before official agenda items as per Regulation 18, accumulating over 13 hours of discussion.

In legislative matters, the Senate reviewed 15 bills. This included 8 bills approved by the House of Representatives, 1 bill amended by the House, and 1 bill endorsed by a joint committee, although a disagreement from the House resulted in its suspension. One bill amended by the Senate is pending further joint committee review, while another awaits House consideration. The Senate is also undertaking second readings for 3 bills, and has approved 1 royal decree.

The Senate's role in government oversight included 95 questions, the evaluation of 8 committee reports-6 of which were completed and 2 withdrawn-alongside 24 motions and 29 annual reports from various agencies or organizations.

Regarding appointments, the Senate approved 6 individuals for positions in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions, with 5 confirmations. Currently, the committee is examining 2 cases involving historical conduct and ethical behavior.

In concluding the session, the Senate acknowledged the royal decree to adjourn the second regular session of parliament from April 11, with plans to reconvene on July 3.
