Scammer Uses AI to Impersonate DJ Art in Fraud Attempt on Actress On Sriphan’s Family

Bangkok: Actress On Sriphan recently disclosed a harrowing experience where a scammer used artificial intelligence to impersonate her younger brother, DJ Art, in an attempt to extort money from their mother.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded when On Sriphan's mother received a call late at night, purporting to be from DJ Art. The caller, using AI technology to mimic Art's voice, informed her that Art and another individual, Oat, had been arrested for drug-related charges. The caller then demanded a monetary transfer of 60,000 baht to secure their release, later reducing the demand to 30,000 baht with a promise to request the rest in the morning.

On Sriphan recounted the distressing situation, noting her mother's panic and the late-night call she received at 1:45 a.m. Her mother was on the verge of a breakdown, believing the dire news. However, the unusual circumstances and the suspicious request for money without mentioning a specific police station raised red flags for On Sriphan. She advised her mother not to transfer any money, suspecting a scam due to the inconsistencies and the sudden reduction in the demanded amount.

The situation escalated when the scammer called back, and On Sriphan's mother cleverly asked questions that only the real Art could answer, such as the names of Art's parents. Unable to respond, the scammer hung up, confirming the family's suspicions.

In a subsequent statement, DJ Art Marut Cheunchomboon shared his experience on social media, expressing both amusement and fear over the sophisticated nature of the scam. He emphasized the importance of awareness and vigilance against such fraudulent attempts, urging others to stay alert to prevent falling victim to similar scams.
