Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police have issued a warning to the public regarding ill-intentioned individuals who are exploiting fake news to incite panic and trick people into donating. Pol. Lt. Gen. Sirawat Deepo, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, emphasized the concerns of Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the national police chief, about the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, which has implications for national security and public safety. According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Police are urging the public to verify information found on social media before accepting it as truth. The police have outlined several tactics used by ill-wishers, including spreading fake news to incite panic, disseminating information to provoke hatred and unrest, and orchestrating scams to receive dona tions under false pretenses. The police caution against the indiscriminate sharing of information, particularly regarding the actions of security officials, as it may be exploited by adversaries to strategize against Thailand. They urge the public to report any instances of fake news, incitement, or donation scams to the Royal Thai Police hotlines 191 and 1599. For those who have fallen victim to scams, complaints can be lodged at the online complaint center via www.thaipoliceonline.go.th or through hotline 1441, available 24 hours a day.
