Royal Thai Army Investigates Old Video of Soldier Abuse

Bangkok: An old video has resurfaced showing a soldier abusing his subordinates, prompting the Royal Thai Army to impose punishment and initiate further investigation into the incident. The video, released by the Royal Thai Army on August 25th, highlights an event from August 21, 2015, where a soldier was seen physically abusing a sergeant during a rock rehearsal at Base 225 located at the Prasat Ta Kwai border.

According to Thai News Agency, Col. Richa Suksuwanon, the deputy army spokesman, confirmed the video's authenticity and stated that the soldier involved was part of the 31st Infantry Regiment, King's Guard. The soldier is reported to have a history of assaulting both sergeants and privates. The punishment meted out to the soldier aligns with the existing regulations, and further investigation is underway to ensure fairness for everyone involved.

The Royal Thai Army has emphasized the importance of verifying facts with the local military unit commander. They clarified that although the video is from 2015, the inappropriate behavior displayed by the soldier has been addressed. Additionally, the army is responding to recent comments regarding the soldier's conduct towards colleagues. An immediate investigation is being conducted, and any confirmed wrongdoing will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
