Royal Thai Army Clarifies “Hun Manet” Border Coordination Claims

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army addressed claims made by "Hun Manet" regarding Thailand's request to open the border. A recent Facebook post by Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, alleged that Thailand sought coordination to open the border checkpoint due to a visit by the Thai Prime Minister. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) later decided to allow only stranded goods transport vehicles to pass. However, Cambodia has since announced a ban on all border crossings.

According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari explained that the situation arose from Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra's visit to inspect the border area. During her visit on June 26, 2025, she met with relevant agencies to discuss the impact of Thai-Cambodian border control measures. She instructed security agencies to coordinate with government bodies to mitigate the effects on local populations.

The Center for Special Operations in the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (CSOPA) held a meeting on June 27, 2025, and decided to relax the restrictions. The relaxation specifically allowed Thai freight vehicles, logged in the Customs Department's system by June 25, 2025, to cross the border through Sa Kaeo Province to Cambodia and return to Thailand.

On June 29, 2025, the Eastern Task Force collaborated with related agencies to draft guidelines and sent a letter to Cambodia to support these relaxation measures. Despite these efforts, the Cambodian Department of Immigration announced a complete ban on the transport of goods through international and regional border checkpoints along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
