Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has called on the public to rally behind the nation's military forces by using the hashtag 'Thais love peace but are not cowardly when fighting,' as tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border continue to rise. This initiative aims to bolster morale among Thai soldiers as they prepare to defend the nation's sovereignty. According to Thai News Agency, a recent meeting of the commanders of the special forces was convened to strategize and ensure readiness, highlighting the increasing urgency of the situation. The Royal Thai Army emphasized its readiness across all units, with a notable post on Facebook affirming their commitment to supporting military operations. In anticipation of potential conflicts, the Commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division, King's Guard, has already inspected the readiness of the Special Transport Unit and other military divisions. Moreover, Lt. Gen. Narongrit Kampeera, Commander of the Special Warfare Command, has instructed the 1st Special Forces Division to be fully prepared for any mission, ensuring that troops are well-trained and equipped to handle all threats. The Air Force's Wing 21 Ubon Ratchathani has also conducted a comprehensive inspection of its combat readiness, ensuring that all personnel and equipment are fully prepared to protect the nation. Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Navy, under the command of Admiral Nataphol Deawwanich, has affirmed its readiness with ships and aircraft prepared for any eventuality. Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the National Police Chief, reiterated the Royal Thai Police Office's commitment to safeguarding Thailand's sovereignty, instructing the Border Patrol Police to be fully prepared for operational duties. During a high-level meeting chaired by General Songwit Noonpakdee, Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, strategies to manage the escalating border situation were discussed. The meeting, which was held at the Air Force Headquarters, aimed to address the present challenges and outline a comprehensive response plan . In response to recent skirmishes, particularly the Chong Bok clash, the Royal Thai Army has maintained that its actions were in self-defense against Cambodian forces. Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari clarified that the altercation was a response to Cambodian soldiers crossing into Thai territory, an assertion that Cambodia has contested. Despite tensions, diplomatic channels remain open, with Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, continuing discussions with Cambodian officials to find collaborative solutions. Mr. Phumtham has emphasized that Thailand does not acknowledge the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice regarding border disputes, affirming a preference for bilateral discussions. Thailand's Prime Minister, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, has reiterated the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means while respecting sovereignty.
