Royal Cremation Ceremony Preparations Underway for Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother

Bangkok: The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) held an important meeting to prepare for the royal cremation ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. The Public Relations Department (PRD) also convened to organize the royal funeral rites for Her Majesty, urging the public to stay informed through official updates and mourn appropriately.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Yupha Thaweewattanakitborworn, Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, led the meeting with executives from various governmental bodies, including the Office of the Central Legal and Regulatory Office and the National Identity Promotion Office. The meeting was aimed at organizing the Royal Cremation Ceremony with the dignity it deserves, following directives from the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a smooth event, leading to the establishment of eight committees and a Coordinating Center for the Royal Cremation Ceremony (CCP) to facilitate collaboration among government agencies and partners.

The Permanent Secretary highlighted the need for accurate public information, cautioning against misinformation regarding mourning procedures. Civil servants are mandated to mourn for one year, with flags flown at half-mast for 30 days. The public mourning period will be determined based on loyalty and appropriateness. Coordination for the ceremony will be managed by a center at the Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister.

Additionally, Ms. Yupha outlined the plans for merit-making ceremonies on the seventh, fifteenth, and hundredth days. The Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister is adorned with a portrait of Her Majesty, while black and white stripes decorate Government House as a symbol of condolence.
