Rome: In a recent interview, Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Prachachon Party and chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy, and Reform, emphasized the urgency of addressing the ongoing problems in Thailand's southern border provinces. He expressed concerns following the recent arrest of a terrorist group in Songkhla Province, which led to clashes.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rangsiman highlighted the importance of intelligence and preparedness among security forces. He stressed that even though the country currently has an interim government with limited time, it is vital to find a way to address these issues promptly to prevent any potential losses. Mr. Rangsiman urged the interim government to prioritize this matter despite their short tenure.
When questioned about the potential for escalation following the recent clashes, Mr. Rangsiman advised caution and attention to intelligence reports. He noted that while arrests have been made, it remains uncertain whether these actions will provoke retaliation. He reiterated that the readiness of the security forces is crucial in managing the situation effectively.
"Initially, I think it depends on the intelligence of the security forces and their preparedness. We already know that if there is an arrest, there will be retaliation. Therefore, the government must be prepared," Mr. Rangsiman stated, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to national security in the region.
