Relatives of Missing Persons from Auditor General Building Collapse Urged to Provide DNA

Bangkok: The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has requested that relatives of those missing from the recent building collapse visit the Institute of Forensic Medicine to provide DNA samples. These samples will aid in the identification process of the missing individuals.

According to Thai News Agency, the Forensic Science Division has called upon the families of over 30 missing individuals to meet with officials and provide DNA samples. This initiative is part of an effort to create a database that will help identify those who remain unaccounted for following the tragic incident. The commander of the Central Forensic Science Division reported that more than 40 families have already reached out to request DNA collection. However, with approximately 76 individuals still missing, the division is urging the remaining families to come forward.

At the Institute of Forensic Medicine, 12 bodies have been received for identification. All but one of these bodies have been identified. The unidentified body belongs to a foreign worker, whose identity has been established by forensic doctors. However, no relatives or associated company have claimed the body, prompting officials to appeal for the company to come forward for the necessary religious rites.

In a specific case, Mr. Jessada Sonchai, known as Nong Fast, is confirmed to be among the missing. His mother recently visited the Institute of Forensic Medicine to seek information, but Mr. Jessada was not among the identified deceased, confirming his status as still missing.
