Region 2 Army Commander Confirms Strategy of Closing Cambodian Border Checkpoint

Chiang mai: The Commander of Army Region 2 has confirmed that closing the Cambodian border checkpoint is one of the strategic measures being implemented. This announcement was made during a special lecture delivered at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University's Mae Rim Campus, where Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, along with Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, addressed over 2,000 attendees including students, residents, and military cadets.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin highlighted the importance of patriotism and the role of the army in presenting frontline information and advice to the government. He paid tribute to the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for Thailand and expressed condolences for those affected by the conflict. The lecture aimed to instill a sense of unity and loyalty to the monarchy and religion among the youth, emphasizing that these values are crucial for overcoming current challenges.

Lt. Gen. Boonsin stated that while the decision to open the border checkpoint lies with the government, the army's role is to oversee the border and provide strategic recommendations. Closing the checkpoint is seen as a method to cut off resources such as oil and food to Cambodia, potentially leading to a more stable and peaceful border situation.

The military continues to face numerous challenges, both economic and political. Lt. Gen. Boonsin addressed the question of the army's purpose, suggesting that the public now has a clearer understanding of their role. He highlighted the significance of public support, which empowers military personnel to fulfill their duties effectively amidst the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border conflict.
