Reflections from the Suan Oi Community Affected by the Road Collapse

Bangkok: Residents of the Suan Oi community affected by the road collapse are hearing voices. Elderly people say they are unable to transport water themselves, and are severely impacted by being without water for several hours. The Superintendent of Sam Sen Police Station is coordinating the arrangement of temporary accommodation for the first night of the disaster.

According to Thai News Agency, following the road collapse incident in front of Vajira Hospital this morning, the news team went to the area to survey the latest situation, particularly in the Suan Oi community, which is a community directly affected by the water supply being cut off.

From talking with local residents, it was learned that the waterworks stopped supplying water at 7:00 AM this morning, which caught most residents off guard and left them with no water reserves. For over 11 hours now, residents have been facing a shortage of clean water.

The Dusit District Office recently coordinated with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Environment Department to deploy a clean water truck for the first time at 5:00 PM to provide initial relief. Residents brought bottles, buckets, and other containers to collect water for consumption.

In addition, the Dusit District Office has also prepared five temporary water service points in the Suan Oi community: the Suan Oi Recreation Center, the middle of Suan Oi Soi 2, a house in Suan Oi Soi 2, Suan Oi Road, Soi Klang (point 1), and Suan Oi Road, Soi Klang (point 2).

A 70-year-old resident of Soi Suai Oi 1 and Soi Sukhothai 15 said she was affected by the incident. This morning, she experienced a power outage and no water. The power was out for about an hour, after which it was restored. She also said she still doesn't have tap water. She's suffering greatly due to her advanced age, which prevents her from transporting water to the service points. She's still waiting for officials to bring water lines, as they've announced they'll be bringing water lines to various alleys in front of her house. Given the large number of elderly residents in the Suan Oi community, transporting water to designated points and back to her home is difficult. She's already old, doesn't have enough water at home, and doesn't know when officials will bring water lines to refill the house.

Repairs and troubleshooting are still ongoing, and residents will continue to rely on this water distribution system until the situation returns to normal.

Pol. Col. Chaiwut Chai-olarn, Superintendent of Samsen Police Station, addressed the preparation of accommodations for police officers residing in the police flats behind Samsen Metropolitan Police Station, who were affected. He stated that the area assessed as dangerous is the east side of Samsen Road, near the Samsen Metropolitan Police Station. The police flats, which have a total of 86 rooms, have been temporarily prepared for the first night at the Cooperative League of Thailand, Dusit District, Bangkok, and Nichada Mansion.

Pol. Col. Chaiwut stated that for the following night, commanders have prepared accommodations at the Police College on Vibhavadi Road. Another room will be provided at Vajira Hospital on Soi 3. Some residents, including police officers with relatives, will be staying at their relatives' homes or at various other accommodations provided by the police. Regarding affected homes, the Dusit District Office will assess which homes need to be evacuated. As far as we know, no evacuation has been made. A strict no-entry barrier is in place behind the Samsen Police Flats.
