PTT CEO Highlights the Role of Natural Gas in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions at Gastech 2025

Milan: PTT CEO presents his vision at the global Gastech 2025 event, emphasizing the importance of natural gas alongside greenhouse gas reduction, aiming for sustainable growth.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), participated in a forum at 'Gastech 2025' at Fiera Milano, Milan, Italy. The event focused on the topic of Energy security through transformation: A vital force for progress in a rapidly changing world. Dr. Kongkrapan was joined by executives from leading energy and technology companies, including Cheniere Energy, ADNOC, Baker Hughes, and INPEX.

Dr. Kongkrapan shared his perspectives on energy security in Southeast Asia and Thailand, highlighting natural gas as a 'destination fuel' essential for transitioning to a clean energy era while reducing greenhouse gases. He noted that natural gas offers stability and is cleaner compared to other fossil fuels. With a growing emphasis on liquefied natural gas (LNG) worldwide, LNG's ability to be delivered globally reduces energy access barriers. Long-term contracts and spot markets further enhance energy security by increasing flexibility.

He emphasized the importance of addressing the energy trilemma: energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability. Southeast Asia's growing natural gas demand, economic expansion, and the gradual phase-out of coal-fired power plants make energy security vital. As renewable energy use rises and domestic natural gas production declines, ASEAN is projected to become a net LNG importer by 2032. This shift requires additional infrastructure like LNG Receiving Terminals to support the regional natural gas market, with Thailand positioning itself as a regional hub.

Dr. Kongkrapan also highlighted the potential for strategic LNG procurement collaboration, infrastructure development, fair pricing mechanisms, and technological cooperation in Southeast Asia. These efforts aim to ensure natural gas remains a competitive and sustainable energy source.

Gastech 2025, held from September 9-12, 2025, in Italy, under the theme 'Powering a Sustainable Energy Future,' is one of the world's largest conferences dedicated to energy technologies. The event serves as a platform for public and private sector figures to exchange ideas and promote sustainable energy solutions amid geopolitical volatility and carbon reduction pressures.

PTT and its group companies are preparing to support Thailand's hosting of Gastech 2026 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) from September 15-18, 2026. The event aims to promote Thailand's energy industry globally, with over 50,000 attendees, 1,000 exhibitors, and 1,000 expert speakers expected to advance a stable and sustainable Thai energy ecosystem.
