Bangkok: The Prime Minister of Thailand is spearheading efforts to transform the nation into a leading hub for the automotive industry, with a particular emphasis on the electric vehicle sector. Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, recently chaired the inaugural meeting of the 1/2024 National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee. This crucial session was attended by key figures such as Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, and Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, along with other relevant agencies.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister unveiled two significant policies aimed at propelling Thailand towards becoming a major player in the global automotive industry. The first policy focuses on investing in green electricity, aligning with the worldwide shift towards carbon neutrality and
clean energy. Emphasizing the importance of environmental consideration, Ms. Paethongtarn articulated the necessity of continuing this agenda seriously. She highlighted the global interest in these issues and underscored the government’s commitment to facilitating a transition to more environmentally friendly vehicle production.
The second policy outlined by the Prime Minister stresses the importance of fostering the electric vehicle industry across all dimensions, including technological development and enhancing production capabilities.
