Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul attended the 47th ASEAN Summit, marking significant diplomatic engagements and agreements. Today, a pivotal Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia is anticipated to be signed at noon.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin, who also serves as Minister of Interior, began his day at 8:00 a.m. local time at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The summit, themed "Inclusivity and Sustainability," sets the stage for regional cooperation and development discussions. A significant agenda item is the co-signing of the declaration for Timor-Leste's accession to ASEAN, marking it as the 11th member country.
During the summit, Prime Minister Anutin is scheduled for bilateral talks with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres and President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. of the Philippines. These discussions reflect ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional and international ties. Furthermore, Anutin's participation in the Plenary session of the summit will include witnessing the handover ceremony of the Second Protocol Amending the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), a move towards enhancing free trade markets within the ASEAN region.
The Thailand-Cambodia Joint Declaration signing will be a notable event, witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN Chair.
