Jakarta: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, has expressed his commitment to working collaboratively with ASEAN member countries to benefit the region's people.
According to Thai News Agency, during his address at the 47th ASEAN Summit, Anutin outlined three key approaches to enhance regional cooperation and security.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of creating a stable and secure ASEAN Community. This involves addressing threats such as cybercrime, online fraud, and human trafficking, through a collaborative network for intelligence sharing and joint operations. He also highlighted the need to protect residents from transboundary pollution, natural disasters, and epidemics by bolstering the capacity of ASEAN public health centers like the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED).
Anutin underscored the significance of inclusive and sustainable economic development by integrating digital platforms and encouraging investments in clean energy and green finance. He welcomed the signing of revised trade agreements and expressed hope for the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) to be finalized within the next year.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need for peace and stability in the region, advocating for a rules-based system and constructive engagement with external partners. This approach supports ASEAN's strategic autonomy and enhances its global influence.
Anutin congratulated Malaysia on its successful ASEAN Chairmanship and pledged support for the Philippines as it prepares to lead ASEAN next year, focusing on the "ASEAN Community Vision 2045."
The summit concluded with the adoption of 16 ASEAN documents and a statement by Malaysia as the ASEAN Chair. Leaders also participated in the handover ceremony for the amendment to the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA). Prior to the discussions, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
