Postponement of Entertainment Complex Bill Not Linked to Bhumjaithai Party’s Withdrawal

Bangkok: The postponement of the consideration of the draft bill on integrated entertainment venues is not related to the Bhumjaithai Party withdrawing from the coalition government. Mr. Danupon Punnakan, MP for the Pheu Thai Party, explained that the delay is to ensure thoroughness in the bill's consideration. He emphasized that the delay is intended to gather comprehensive input from various stakeholders, including the public, academics, and educational institutions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Danupon clarified that the government whip informed him about the decision to postpone the bill, originally slated to be the first item on the House of Representatives' agenda, by about a month. The establishment of a full entertainment complex is considered a crucial development in tourism infrastructure. The postponement will also impact the second bill, concerning amnesty for the people, which will now be considered in the first reading on July 9. The Pheu Thai Party aims for the parliamentary process to foster societal harmony and provide a fresh start for Thailand in the coming month.

Mr. Danupon addressed inquiries about whether the postponement was linked to the Bhumjaithai Party's withdrawal. He stated that he had spoken to several MPs from the Bhumjaithai Party, noting that opinions varied within the party. He reiterated that the postponement is to ensure that all relevant information is considered, particularly concerning gambling and its implications for Thai citizens. Coordination with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) is part of efforts to address concerns about money laundering and gambling addiction.

The Pheu Thai Party is drawing lessons from countries like Macau, Singapore, and others in Asia with established entertainment venues. The aim is to understand how these countries tackle money laundering and gambling addiction, necessitating additional time for careful consideration, according to Mr. Danupon.
