Police Commission Meeting Concludes with Appointment of 250 Generals

Bangkok: The Police Commission meeting, which lasted over 8 hours, revealed the list of 250 police general appointments. "Big Tao" was disappointed, but "Noppasin" was promoted to Police Lieutenant General.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting took place on August 31, 2025, at the Sriyanon Room at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters. The National Police Chief (NPC), Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, chaired the 8th NPC meeting of 2025. The agenda included appointing and transferring police officers from the level of Commander to Deputy National Police Chief for the year 2025, with over 250 positions involved in appointments, promotions, and transfers.

The National Police Commission (NPC) convened with a quorum, but Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, was absent due to an important engagement. During the extensive meeting, the NPC reviewed and revised the list of names proposed by the Royal Thai Police.

The meeting saw objections to several nominations, prompting separate deliberations by the National Police Commissioner, Deputy National Police Commissioners, and representatives from various police units. This resulted in clarifications being sought before the new list was submitted for approval.

One notable case involved Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, who expressed disappointment over not being considered for promotion. He remains in his position as Deputy Commissioner-General of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The NPC meeting considered two vacant Deputy Commissioner-General positions. Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, the most senior candidate, was promoted to Deputy Commissioner-General. Similarly, Pol. Lt. Gen. Itthiphon Atchariyapradit was promoted to Inspector-General of the Royal Thai Police. Meanwhile, Pol. Lt. Gen. Soponrat Singhajaru, despite his seniority, was not nominated for promotion due to ethical concerns.

Seven Assistant Police Commissioner positions were filled based on seniority. Promoted individuals included Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapong Thanomchit and Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridet, among others.

The commission also addressed 16 vacant positions at the Police Commission level, balancing seniority with knowledge and ability. Notable promotions included Pol. Maj. Gen. Natthasak Chaowansai to Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau and Pol. Maj. Gen. Rungroj Thakoon Punyasiri to Commander of the Border Patrol Police.

Several officers remained in their current positions or were transferred. For instance, Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Bunsom continues as Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, while Pol. Lt. Gen. Wattana Yijin was transferred to Commander of Provincial Police Region 1.

The meeting also considered appointments at the Deputy Commissioner-General and Provincial Police Commander levels. Changes included the transfer of Pol. Maj. Gen. Worasak Phisitbannakorn to Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1 and various other key assignments.

The extensive deliberations and appointments underscore the significant restructuring within the Royal Thai Police, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and leadership within the force.
