PM Inspects Suvarnabhumi Readiness for High Season, Highlights 140% Increase in Indian Tourists.

Bangkok: The Prime Minister conducted an inspection of Suvarnabhumi Airport's readiness for the upcoming high tourist season, emphasizing the importance of preventing delays that could disrupt tourism plans. The inspection confirmed that the immigration system is fully prepared, and it was revealed that the visa-free policy has resulted in a 140% increase in Indian tourists. Notably, the Prime Minister mentioned that this overseas trip would be the longest he has been away from his child, who is expected to miss him greatly. According to Thai News Agency, before embarking on a trip to Los Angeles, USA, to attend the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and related events in Lima, Peru, from November 10-18, 2024, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra convened a meeting to discuss preparations for the high tourist season. The meeting, held at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, included key figures such as Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Surawong Thientho ng, Minister of Tourism and Sports, as well as officials from the Immigration Bureau, Tourist Police, and the Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Prime Minister highlighted tourism as a crucial factor in stimulating Thailand's domestic economy and reiterated the country's ambition to develop into a tourism hub for many nations. She acknowledged the hard work of officials, especially during the high season, and stressed the importance of ensuring that services, including check-ins, are efficient and do not hinder travel plans. She also advocated for the integration of technology to streamline processes and enhance tourist experiences. The government is prepared to address and resolve any problems that arise during this period. During the inspection, the Prime Minister visited various tourist service agencies to boost morale and observed the biometric identification system being used for domestic departures at Thai Airways counters. Addressing concerns about past issues with the immigration system, the Pri me Minister assured the press that the system is now fully functional and that all departments are performing their duties effectively. This year's tourist target is set to surpass that of 2019, largely due to visa-free measures that have significantly increased tourist numbers, particularly from India. Tourist attractions across the country have also prepared by focusing on safety, cleanliness, and promoting Thai culture. The Prime Minister concluded by expressing confidence in her team, particularly Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, who is tasked with ensuring transportation and tourist travel arrangements. She emphasized the collaboration with police to ensure the safety and convenience of both Thai citizens and foreign visitors. In a lighter note, the Prime Minister mentioned that this trip marks the longest period she will be away from her child, anticipating that her child will miss her dearly.
