PM Confirms Safety of Thais Detained in Myanmar, Negotiations Underway.


Bangkok: Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the safety of four Thai nationals detained by Myanmar. The individuals were arrested following an incident involving the Myanmar navy and a Thai fishing boat.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already submitted a formal letter to Myanmar and received assurances regarding the safety of the detained individuals. Mr. Maris Sengiampong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has initiated communication with the Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Thailand and has also contacted Myanmar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to expedite the release of the detained Thais.

In response to queries about the possibility of Thai authorities visiting the detained individuals prior to their release, the Prime Minister mentioned that efforts are underway through the embassy in Myanmar, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, the Ministry of Defense is a
lso involved in these efforts. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the four Thais would be released soon.
