PM Confirms Court’s Tariff Freeze on Trump Will Not Affect Thai Negotiations

Bangkok: The Prime Minister confirmed that the Federal Trade Court's tariff suspension on "Trump" will not affect the Thai negotiation plan. The team is still moving forward. Until today, there is still no clear date. He feels comfortable that many ASEAN countries are at the same level as Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, addressed concerns regarding the US federal court's decision that prevents Trump from using emergency powers to impose tariffs worldwide. She clarified that the ruling would not impact Thailand, which is currently in the process of negotiating US tariffs. Ms. Shinawatra emphasized that the negotiation process is ongoing, and preparations are being made despite the uncertainty.

She mentioned discussions held during a recent meeting in Malaysia, where she conversed with multiple countries about US tariffs. The consensus was that many countries, including Thailand, are awaiting further instructions and are prepared to engage in talks once a date is set. Ms. Shinawatra assured that her administration is not lagging and is actively waiting for a dialogue date within a 90-day framework.

The Prime Minister highlighted the efforts of an informal working team that continues to maintain communication and updates on the situation. She also clarified that she has not faced any visa restrictions from the US, urging everyone to remain confident in the ongoing negotiation process.
