Bangkok: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday emphasized that bilateral discussions with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, concentrated exclusively on the sincere and concrete implementation of a recent joint declaration, rather than the reopening of border checkpoints.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin's primary focus was on accelerating a four-point plan aimed at ensuring stability in the region. This plan emphasizes the withdrawal of heavy weapons and the clearance of landmines. After their meeting in Malaysia, Anutin called on Hun Manet to guarantee that the withdrawal efforts were substantial and effective, enabling Thailand to fulfill its commitments, which include the return of 18 Cambodian soldiers and the removal of landmines.
Anutin stated, "If it can be done today, we will withdraw our weapons as quickly and extensively as possible." He further clarified that discussions regarding the reopening of border checkpoints were not on the agenda and would only be considered once all withdrawal and clearance operations have been fully completed.
