‘Phumtham’ Insists on Not Abandoning Southern Border Problems Despite Thai-Cambodian Conflict

Bangkok: 'Phumtham' reiterates not to abandon southern border problems, even though the Thai-Cambodian conflict must be resolved urgently. He believes that the 4th Army Region Commander and the 9th Provincial Police Region Commander will cooperate to solve the problem fully after finding a disturbing bomb. He also pointed out that the peace talks are underway.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, addressed the situation in the southern border provinces. He noted that incidents had subsided during the Thai-Cambodian border situation but resumed once that situation was resolved. Recent bombings in the area were identified as sound bombs, posing no physical threat, and coincided with the Muslim festival of Hari Raya, seemingly intended to create chaos without causing harm.

Mr. Phumtham expressed confidence in the efforts of the 4th Army Commander and the 9th Provincial Police Commander. He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing all issues as Minister of Defense. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with both military and police forces and indicated that discussions with foreign countries would be necessary. Despite other pressing international issues, he assured that peace talks were in progress and pledged not to neglect the southern border situation.

Additionally, Mr. Phumtham highlighted improvements in the Thai-Cambodian border situation, crediting the media for discouraging emotional responses. He pointed out that while military action could be taken, the priority was to avoid loss of life and property, emphasizing the ultimate goal of achieving peace.
