Phumtham Directs Comprehensive Support for Military to Manage Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions

Bangkok: "Phumtham" has instructed all cabinet departments to provide comprehensive support to the military in addressing the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their patience and restraint in the face of provocations and directed the Border Patrol Police Center (BPPCC) to coordinate efforts to prevent illegal encroachments by Cambodian civilians and address issues related to criminal activities such as call center scams.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that the Cabinet meeting received directives from Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is currently acting as Prime Minister. The directives focused on resolving the Thai-Cambodian border dispute and mitigating the impact of Tropical Storm Kajiki. A response plan has been established since last week to minimize the effects on the local population.

All relevant agencies have been requested to provide resources and support to the military. The Acting Prime Minister commended the soldiers stationed along the Thai-Cambodian border for their endurance against provocations, including military operations and the use of civilians as human shields. The Center for Emergency Situation Administration (CEA) has been tasked with immediate coordination and management should the military require urgent support.

Furthermore, orders have been issued for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to coordinate operations and ensure effective communication across military, foreign affairs, and public relations domains, alongside the Royal Thai Police and the Ministry of Interior. Measures have been put in place to enforce border control and expedite the crackdown on scam-related crimes.

The Meteorological Department and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) have been directed to monitor Typhoon Kajiki around the clock to facilitate timely decision-making, issue warnings, and execute rescue operations as needed.

In terms of digital infrastructure, all government agencies have been instructed to delay the procurement of cloud services. This pause is pending the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society's clarification on integrating Thailand's digital infrastructure into a National Cloud, as directed by the Digital Government Development Committee. The Ministry is expected to present its proposal to the Cabinet within one month.
