Phumtham Cancels Paris Trip Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Concerns

Bangkok: Phumtham Vejjayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has decided to cancel his scheduled trip to Paris, France, where he was to participate in a military conference and the Paris Air Show from June 15-19, 2025. The decision comes amid rising concerns over significant developments expected to take place between June 12-14, which could impact the Thai-Cambodian border situation.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation involves a series of crucial events starting on June 12, 2015, when the Medical Council will convene to decide on the fate of three doctors involved in the treatment of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The council's decision will determine whether to uphold a previous resolution to penalize the doctors for treating Thaksin on the 14th floor or to accept a veto by Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin, who is acting as Special President.

On June 13, 2015, the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions is scheduled to hold a hearing to assess the legality of Thaksin's transfer to the 14th floor. The outcome of this hearing could have broader implications for political developments in the country.

Further complicating matters, on June 14, 2015, the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) is set to meet in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The results of this meeting remain uncertain, with potential consequences for the border situation between the two nations.
