Bangkok: "Phumtham" has acknowledged that "Thaksin" played a significant role in securing the landslide victory for the Pheu Thai Party in the Udon Thani Provincial Administrative Organization election. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, who also leads the Pheu Thai Party, highlighted several factors contributing to this success, noting Udon Thani's status as a stronghold for the party, often referred to as the "Red Shirt capital." According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham addressed the election results, attributing the victory partly to a speech by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a key figure in the party's history and the founder of the Thai Rak Thai Party. He urged against over-interpretation, emphasizing that the Pheu Thai Party has consistently worked within the province to maintain its voter base. He also acknowledged the enduring popularity of policies introduced by Thaksin, which have resonated with the people. This combination of effective policy work and strong local representation has solidified the party's position in Udon Thani. Mr. Phumtham further elaborated on the multiple factors leading to the success in Udon Thani, including the involvement of popular campaign assistants and the party's continuous efforts to adapt and engage with local issues. He noted that while the victory was not solely attributable to a single factor, it reflected the collaborative efforts of various components within the party. The Pheu Thai Party's commitment to addressing local problems and maintaining a strong presence in the area contributed significantly to the election outcome. When questioned about Udon Thani's reputation as the Pheu Thai Party's capital, Mr. Phumtham confirmed the province's strong allegiance to the party, acknowledging its significance as a major city with a robust party membership. The nickname "capital" is widely accepted, reflecting the province's importance to the Pheu Thai Party. Regarding the possibility of the Prime Minister visiting Udon Thani alongside Thaksin to express gratitude, as suggested by Nattawut Saikua, the Prime Minister's advisor, Mr. Phumtham stated that he could not confirm such plans. He emphasized the Prime Minister's numerous responsibilities and the various ways in which party leaders can engage with the constituents, leaving the decision to Nattawut's discretion.
