Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization Election Battle: Former Champion Leads Over Prachachon Party

Phuket: Results of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization election count are in. The old champion is ahead of the candidate from the Prachachon Party, while the voter turnout was lower than the target set by the Election Commission.

According to Thai News Agency, the election of the provincial administrative organization president and provincial administrative organization members in Phuket province has been closely watched since the day the candidates were introduced because it is the first time that the Prachachon Party has sent candidates to compete for the provincial administrative organization president and provincial administrative organization members in all 24 constituencies to compete against the former provincial administrative organization president who is running to defend his title.

The counting of votes for the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization and PAO in Phuket Province, which has a total of 392 units in 3 districts: Mueang District, Kathu District, and Thalang District, has now finished counting votes in many units and some units are still in the process of counting votes. The results are not complete. It appears that candidate number 1, Mr. Rewat Areerob, the former PAO president in the previous term, is likely to retain his seat for another term after winning over his opponents in many units and in units where the counting of votes has not yet been completed, he is leading his opponent number 2, Dr. Lertsak Leenanitikul from the Prachachon Party by a landslide. At present, the counting of votes has finished in 215 units out of 392 units in 3 districts.

Unofficial results show that Mr. Rewat Areerob received 76,903 votes, Dr. Sak received 41,442 votes, and Mr. Sritep Udomlap received 1,821 votes.

While the unofficial results of the election of the 24 provincial administrative organization constituencies showed that the candidates from the Phuket team who wanted them also had a lead over the candidates from the Prachachon Party in almost every unit, making the hopes that the Prachachon Party would secure local political seats in Phuket to continue the national politics that had previously swept up 3 MP seats unattainable.

As for the overall election throughout the day, Ms. Ornpin Achiwasuk, Director of the Election Commission Office in Phuket Province, stated that there were no reports of voters violating election laws. The overall picture throughout the day was smooth. However, the number of voters who came out to vote in Phuket is initially expected to be around 50-52%, while the election for the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization president in 2020 had around 59% of voters come out to vote.

This time in Phuket, there are 314,623 people eligible to vote for the mayor and 307,388 people eligible to vote for members, with a total of 392 polling stations in 3 districts: 230 in Mueang Phuket District, 106 in Thalang District, and 56 in Kathu District.
