Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Attracts Over 700 Sailors in Asia’s Biggest Sailing Event.


Phuket: The sea in Phuket is bustling with more than 700 sailors and almost 200 boats anchoring to join the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, the biggest sailing event in Asia. This year is special because Her Majesty the Queen will come to compete with the Vayu team on the last day, 6 December.

According to Thai News Agency, the 200 sailboats and dinghies seen here are sailboats that have come to compete in the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, held for the 36th time, which is considered the biggest event in Asia in Kata Bay, Phuket Province. This has made the sea in Phuket, from Kata Bay all the way to Promthep Cape, set up as a racing field, making it even more beautiful and lively.

The competition began on December 1st and will continue until December 6th. What is special is not only the participating sailboats, there are both large and small sailboats traveling from many countries around the world. This year is also the first year that it is open to disabled people to join the competition. In the SV-14 sailboat cat
egory, there are 7 sailboats for disabled people participating in total.

What’s more special is that this year is the second year that Her Majesty the Queen will come to participate in the sailing competition on the last day, December 6th. She will compete in the Vayu IRC Zero THA 72 sailboat team. This year, Her Majesty the Queen has received the gracious grace of His Majesty the King in presenting awards to the winners of this sailing competition.
