Pha Muang Soldiers Seize 405 kg of Crystal Meth After Border Clash

MAE SAI: Pha Muang Task Force soldiers engaged in a confrontation with a drug caravan near the Mae Sai border, resulting in the seizure of 405 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The clash occurred when the group attempted to evade a search by the authorities. According to Thai News Agency, the commander of the Pha Muang Task Force, along with related agencies, conducted an inspection of the substantial drug haul following an encounter with the caravan. Soldiers from the 4th Cavalry Company, part of the Chao Tak Army Task Force under the Pha Muang Task Force, were patrolling the Mae Sai District border area, particularly near Ban Pang Ha, Tambon Koh Chang, when they encountered a group believed to be responsible for drug trafficking. Upon attempting to conduct a search, the caravan, consisting of 5 to 10 individuals, opened fire on the officers for approximately five minutes before abandoning their haul and fleeing the scene. The abandoned sacks, converted into 14 backpacks, contained a total of 405 kilogr ams of crystal methamphetamine. Since October 1, 67, the Pha Muang Task Force has been active in counter-narcotics operations in the region, resulting in the interception of 19 drug-related cases and the arrest of 18 suspects. The operations have led to the confiscation of more than 2.9 million methamphetamine pills, 140 kilograms of heroin, and 405 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The task force has engaged in three armed clashes during this period, with no reported injuries or fatalities among the officers.
