Pattani in Turmoil Again, 3rd Bomb Successfully Defused

Pattani: Officers have collected a third bomb after two bombs exploded in the middle of a night market last night. It is believed that the bomb was caused by the same group of perpetrators, but the third bomb did not work. They are also releasing information from CCTV footage.

According to Thai News Agency, chaos ensued at 6 a.m. when locals discovered a suspicious object placed in front of a shop in Makrut Market, Muang District, Pattani Province. Officials were quick to respond, deploying a bomb disposal robot for investigation. An initial inspection revealed a paper bag containing an explosive circuit board, a clock face, and electrical wires. The area was secured for safety, allowing the bomb disposal team to conduct a detailed examination. They identified it as a timed bomb that failed to detonate and successfully disarmed it. Initial findings suggest the bomb was set for 10:30 p.m. but malfunctioned. CCTV footage has provided clues, showing two suspects, both teenagers, on a motorcycle near the shop. The suspects are believed to be the same individuals responsible for the two bombs at the night market.

The bombings began last night with explosions at the Inter Gold Shop and Santisuk Hotel, causing damage to food stalls and motorcycles and leaving one villager with tinnitus. The bombs were improvised explosive devices, each weighing about 3 kilograms and packed in steel pipes, designed to detonate simultaneously. Despite the absence of shrapnel, the explosive force was significant. Officers are working to collect evidence and analyze CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The initial assessment points to the same group of insurgents being responsible for all three bombs, strategically placing them to explode approximately 30 minutes apart.
