OR Partners with Bangkok Airways for First Use of Locally Produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Bangkok: OR and Bangkok Airways have collaborated to utilize sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by a local Thai manufacturer, marking a significant milestone in their commitment to sustainable aviation and aligning with their shared development goals.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiyaphruethi Watcharikup, Marketing Manager for Aircraft and Shipping at PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), and Mr. Dechit Charoenwong, Senior Executive Vice President at Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI). This agreement outlines the purchase of SAF from a domestic manufacturer for use in Bangkok Airways flights, a first in Thailand. The signing took place at Bangkok Airways' Head Office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, symbolizing a joint effort to advance Thailand's aviation industry toward environmental sustainability.

Mr. Chaiyaphruek expressed that this collaboration highlights OR's role as a leading distributor of aviation fuel in Thailand and Bangkok Airways' initiative in using SAF produced by PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC). GC has pioneered sustainable product and technology innovations, introducing the Co-Processing process in the aviation sector to support Thailand's SAF enforcement policy. OR is committed to contributing to the aviation industry's sustainability efforts, aligning with Thailand's goal of achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

Mr. Dechit emphasized that this collaboration is a significant step for Bangkok Airways as it integrates SAF by a domestic producer into its operations. This initiative is part of the 'Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways' campaign, which focuses on reducing carbon emissions across all business processes. The partnership with OR is expected to promote the use of biofuels in Thailand's aviation industry, aligning with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) carbon neutrality goal by 2050.

This partnership represents a pivotal moment in the development of clean energy within Thailand's aviation industry and supports the IATA's objective of achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
