Bangkok: The National Security Council (NSC) has formed a special committee tasked with resolving security issues along the Thai-Cambodian border, with the army assigned to coordinate efforts in anticipation of potential changes in the situation and to safeguard sovereignty.
According to Thai News Agency, the announcement followed the 4th National Security Council meeting of 2025, attended by Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra and Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, who chaired the meeting. The NSC was briefed on the current developments along the border and the actions taken by relevant agencies. Measures were prepared to protect national interests and effectively communicate the situation to the public and international community.
The newly established committee will monitor, coordinate, and recommend actions should tensions escalate. The army's role will focus on operational coordination to adapt to any situation changes, prioritizing sovereignty protection and maintaining beneficial international relations.
The efforts align with the negotiation guidelines set for the Joint Border Committee (JBC) discussions between Thailand and Cambodia scheduled for June 14, 2025.
Additionally, in response to the spread of false news intended to incite conflict, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has been tasked with monitoring and fact-checking news to ensure accurate public understanding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense will lead public relations and information dissemination efforts.
