Bangkok: The Thai national boxing team for the SEA Games engaged in a sparring session with the ONE Championship team, headed by Nong-O Hama Muay Thai. The session was held as a warm-up for the upcoming SEA Games, where Nong-O is set to fight Rodtang Jitmuangnon for the Muay Thai Flyweight World Championship at ONE173 in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, November 16. During the session, they faced off against Khunathip Pitnuch, a SEA Games boxer in the 63.5 kg division.
According to Thai News Agency, Nong O expressed that the young Thai national team members demonstrated strong boxing skills and excellent timing. However, he noted the need for improvement in their strength and stamina to ensure a strong performance at the SEA Games.
The sparring matches also featured bouts between Rambolek Chor.Ajonbun and Banjong Sinsiri in the 69 kg category, and Peerapat Yeasungnoen, who competed against Dani Rodriguez, the Rajadamnern Stadium (RWS) welterweight champion, in the 75 kg division.
Dr. Prachum Bunthiam, Vice President of the Thailand Boxing Association and Deputy Secretary-General, attended the training session. He expressed gratitude to the professional Muay Thai fighters for their dedication to training the national team, highlighting the benefits in terms of punching technique and strength. The SEA Games boxing team is set to travel to Finland for competition, followed by a training camp in Uzbekistan as they prepare for the final stretch leading up to the SEA Games. Dr. Prachum emphasized the importance of avoiding injuries.
Pol. Lt. Col. Wicharn Phonrit, head coach of the women's boxing team, reported that the athletes are currently 80% prepared, with a focus on refining tactics and building strength. He remains optimistic about achieving the association's goal of winning five gold medals. Vietnam is identified as a formidable opponent for the women's boxing team in the SEA Games.
The SEA Games boxing team is scheduled to travel to Finland to participate in the "Tammer Tournament 2025" from October 29 to November 3 in Tampere.
