NDRRMC verifying reports of 2 dead due to Dodong, ‘habagat’

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday it is validating reports on the death of two persons due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat’ that was enhanced by Tropical Depression Dodong. The Department of the Interior and Local Government is verifying the fatalities, reportedly caused by two landslide incidents in Antipolo City, Rizal that were rain-induced. The first incident was recorded in Sitio Puting Bato, Barangay San Luis at 3 p.m. on July 15 while the second was reported in Vista Grande, Barangay Sta. Cruz at 8 p.m. on July 16. As of this posting, torrential rains in the country have affected 24,008 families or 85,584 persons residing in 184 barangays in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas. Of the total, 757 families or 3,067 persons are sheltering in 58 evacuation centers while 1,421 families, consisting of 5,992 individuals, are receiving aid outside evacuation centers. The rest are affected families who do not need to be removed from their residences or whose livelihoods have been affected, according to the Office of Civil Defense. The NDRRMC also reported damage to 96 houses in the Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, and Western Visayas
