NCPO Meeting to Address Landmine Incident Involving Soldiers

Bangkok: The full NCPO meeting on July 21st will determine the stance on the issue of soldiers stepping on landmines. Government spokesman reveals that the full NCPO meeting will be held on July 21 to determine the position after the 2nd Army reported the results of the investigation into the incident of 3 soldiers stepping on a landmine, while the NCPO secretariat has scheduled a meeting to discuss information at 2:00 p.m. today.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that after the Second Army Region reported the results of its investigation into the landmine incident in Ubon Ratchathani Province yesterday evening (19 July), Gen. Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense and Director of the Special Operations Center for the Administration of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation (SOC-B) called a meeting of the Secretariat of the SOC-B committee today (20 July) at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will determine guidelines for the Second Army Region reporting the results of its investigation into the case of personnel in Ubon Ratchathani Province who were on a patrol to maintain peace in the Chong Bok area and stepped on a landmine, resulting in three injuries.

In this regard, the 2nd Army Area has been ordered to collect all evidence and results of the investigation and report the results in writing to the Secretariat of the NBTC.

Mr. Jirayu added that tomorrow (21 July 2015) at 9:30 a.m., there will be a full meeting of the NCPO committee at the National Security Council (NSC), with the entire committee from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and security sectors that are members of the NCPO committee participating, to discuss the results of the mine test and determine the next steps.
