National Legislative Assembly Confirms Cabinet Resolution on Overlapping Land in 2022

Bangkok: "Krawee" has revealed that the National Legislative Assembly has made it clear in the House of Representatives' Administrative Committee that the Cabinet resolution for 2022 regarding overlapping land title deeds remains unrevoked.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Krawee Prisananantakul, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Administration, announced the outcomes of a meeting focused on addressing the issue of overlapping state land in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The Office of the National Land Policy Committee (NLPC) assured the meeting that the Cabinet's 2022 resolution guarantees no infringement on the rights of individuals possessing land title deeds, even if the land overlaps with Sor Por Kor land. It was clearly stated that such title deeds cannot be revoked.

Mr. Krawee highlighted that those utilizing Sor Por Kor land for non-agricultural purposes, such as constructing hotels or cafes, must urgently address these improper uses. Sor Por Kor is tasked with resolving these issues to ensure the land serves its intended agricultural purpose.

The meeting also addressed the involvement of Mr. Thanadol Suwannarit, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, who was brought in to clarify matters linked to coalition government conflicts and allegations regarding land inspections involving the Prime Minister's hotel shares. Mr. Thanadol assured that the committee's discussions were devoid of political considerations, as he inspected 22 locations, including Pak Chong, to address land encroachment and misuse concerns.

Mr. Krawee further emphasized the importance of the One Map initiative, with a 1:4000 mapping ratio, expected to be completed this year. This initiative aims to mitigate overlapping land issues in state ownership, with five out of seven map groups already completed.

Additionally, the meeting addressed why Pak Chong was inspected, despite the Cabinet's resolution against revocation, sparking accusations of political motives. The agency clarified that inspections were conducted at various sites without targeting specific plots. Mr. Thanadol reported upcoming measures by the ALRO to enforce laws against incorrect land use, signaling actions to reclaim land for farmers, not capitalists. Mr. Krawee expressed support for Mr. Thanadol's efforts to uphold the rights of landholders and ensure proper land use.
