National Housing Authority Initiates Debt Relief and Rent Waivers for Thai-Cambodian Border Provinces

Bangkok: The National Housing Authority has initiated urgent measures to provide assistance to people residing in seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border. These measures include debt relief and rent exemptions designed to ease the financial burden on residents during the ongoing crisis.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the government is coordinating with various agencies to ensure the welfare of vulnerable groups in the border areas. This initiative aims to address housing challenges and maintain a stable quality of life for those affected by the regional unrest.

The relief measures, facilitated by the National Housing Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, target the provinces of Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Trat, Chanthaburi, and Sa Kaeo. Key components of the relief package include rent exemptions for retail and utility rental customers for a three-month period, retroactive from August 1 to October 31, 2025, and the waiving of fines for late payments within this timeframe.

Additionally, the government has announced a suspension of hire-purchase payments for customers leasing buildings in the affected areas. This includes a full suspension of payments for three months, also retroactive from August 1 to October 31, 2025, along with a 100% waiver of any associated fines.

To further support livelihoods, the NHA will distribute relief bags to three main groups: NHA customers residing in border areas, vulnerable groups within NHA projects, and individuals who have migrated to live with relatives in NHA projects due to the unrest.

Ms. Sasikarn emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to providing support in all situations, particularly during crises, ensuring that no one is left behind.
